Welcome to York's premier Gay Bar! Now in our 2nd year, open 7 days a week and recently refurbished, we are located on Castlegate, right by Cliffords Tower, the Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre.
With a solid reputation as one of the friendliest bars in the city, we have a warm welcome ready for all our customers be you Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Straight or any persuasion you fancy! Our focus at Little John's is to make sure all our customers enjoy our friendly, warm and safe environment - as such we have informal but Conscientious door staff on our busy nights, so rest assured anyone with an attitude will be politely asked to drink elsewhere!
In the past few months we've been fortunate enough to welcome add a number of well known celebrities to our clientele, including Alesha Dixon and Mr Erasure, Andy Bell, so if you're an avid autograph collector make sure you pop in!
With a history stretching back to the English Civil War, Little John's has been serving drinks for the past 330 years, and not unsurprisingly we have a number of resident ghosts and a poltergeist, resulting in a visit from the Most Haunted team just last year! Most famously, our basement was used to the display the grisly corpse of the highwayman Dick Turpin in 1739 - the landlord charging a penny to view his body before he was finally interred in St Georges graveyard where he remains to this day. The precise location of his body is still available to be seen in our basement - just ask a member of staff to take you down!
We will be starting up our food menu in February 2009 and will be serving up a range of dishes including a fantastic steakhouse menu - watch this space! |
