| Ali and The Beachcombers | |
| | Location | York | | Genre | Raggae Dub Ska Latin | | Ali and The Beachcombers was an idea Al came up with during 2 years of surfing and travelling around the world. During this time he wrote most of the band’s songs, inspired by the places and cultures he visited, ranging from the convicts sent to Oz-inspired ‘Botany Bay’ to the tropical storms of Fiji-inspired ‘Summer Rain’. In fact the band are named after his trip to Beachcomber Island! The band formed in Scarborough, January 2009 as a four piece reggae band and have subsequently played all over the North of England, developing their own unique, funky sound and a massive fan base. The band combine influences of Reggae, Latin and Ska music in their original songs and also play their own interpretation of hits by everyone from Bob Marley and Desmond Dekker to Smokey Robinson and The Eagles. The Beachcomber sound is an eclectic mix of Latin, Cuban grooves and traditional reggae rhythms. They have created a purely original sound that makes the music a truly genuine experience, with a blend of hypnotic vocals, funky sax, classical Spanish guitar, electric guitar, melodica, djembe and organ/keys. No other band can boast such diversity. The Beachcombers have headlined loads of cool events, including Tall Ships Festival 2010 in Hartlepool, sharing the stage with top-name acts such as The Doves and Ocean Colour Scene. Other events include Acoustic Gathering, NSDF at The Spa Grand Hall and the Stephen Joseph Theatre to name but a few. | | Click here to be notified for upcoming gigs for Ali and The Beachcombers | |
